Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam and former Minister of State for Care Services, recently visited Tunstall Televida’s offices in Barcelona to find out how they are using technology enabled care services (TECS) to support more than 245,000 people across Spain.
Mr Burstow also visited Barcelona Provincial Council where he was welcomed by the second Vice President of the Provincial Council and Head of the Department of Care for People, Mercè Conesa, and Josep Oliva, Deputy of Social Welfare, Public Health and Consumer Affairs, Equality and Citizenship.
The visit was arranged by Tunstall Healthcare at Mr Burstow’s request because of his interest in the use of TECS (Technology Enabled Care Services) as Chair of the CORC (Commission on Residential Care). Tunstall representatives Joe Killen, Director of International Business Development, Simon Arnold, Chief Customer Officer, Abel Delgado, CEO of Southern Europe, and Mar Entrambasaguas, Strategic Development Director were all pleased to welcome the MP to the centre and explain more about Barcelona Province’s proactive model of support.
The Spanish telecare system is delivered using the ERT (Efficient Response in Telecare) model, designed to ensure the service is adapted to the needs of each person. Mr Burstow was keen to find out more about the model, including elements such as funding, home visits, follow up calls, mobile units and various proactive prevention campaigns such as health, fire, carers and abuse, all of which use the telecare service to integrate various related service offerings for people.
Commenting on Mr Burstow’s visit Simon Arnold said:
We were delighted to offer an insight into the proactive support services offered by Tunstall Televida in conjunction with Barcelona Provincial Council. We are encouraged that a senior member of British Government has taken an interest in how technology can help people with long-term health and care needs, and the lessons that can be learned in the UK from the Spanish approach.
