Tunstall Healthcare has become a signatory on the Birmingham City Council Charter for Social Responsibility which aims to ensure companies conducting business in Birmingham are contributing to the area economically, socially and environmentally.
As part of the accreditation, Tunstall submitted documentation to demonstrate how the Birmingham Telecare Service contributes to six key areas:
· Local Employment
· Buy Birmingham First
· Partners in Communities
· Good Employer
· Green and Sustainable
· Ethical Procurement
As an accredited member of the Charter, Tunstall promotes local employment, purchases goods and services from local businesses, remains a credited Living Wage Employer and runs an environmentally-conscious business to ensure all procurement is ethically sound.
Ian Price, Projects Director at Tunstall said: “We are committed to recruiting locally wherever possible, making sure all of our vacancies are advertised nearby, in addition to our general policies of fair recruitment and paying a living wage. We are also taking part in the CIPD Future of Work programme, where we will partner with a local school and help students by providing work experience placement and supporting them with job seeking skills.
“As well as recruiting locally, we also purchase our goods both locally and ethically, choosing local suppliers whenever we can and adhering to our policies regarding integrity and ethical conduct. Our pledge also demonstrates our environmentally responsible approach, reducing our carbon footprint year on year and continuing to meet the internationally recognised ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management standard.”
Aimee Hannon, project manager for the Birmingham Telecare Service said: “All of the members at the Birmingham Telecare Service were recruited locally, so it was particularly important to me that the company I work for can demonstrate how it is giving back to the community.
“I’ve seen how telecare is benefitting the growing number of people using it in the city, with over 12,000 residents supported so far. Becoming an accredited member of the Charter demonstrates how closely Tunstall and BCC are working together to achieve shared aims. This achievement recognises how Tunstall is making a difference in Birmingham which is something I am very proud of.”
