A report from the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and Tunstall Healthcare is highlighting the importance of integration and how redesigned housing solutions, incorporating assistive technology, can help improve health and wellbeing. The final report from CIH and Tunstall on Delivering housing, health and care outcomes is based on a series of high level summits held earlier this year. CIH and Tunstall developed these summits to unite housing, health and care leaders and speakers to debate the opportunities and challenges facing the sectors.
Delivering housing, health and care outcomes shows some of the ways housing providers can help those in health and social care save money and improve outcomes for people and communities. This includes exploring ways to enable people to be discharged from hospital more quickly, monitoring risk through technology and support services, and enabling delivery of health services either in or close to people’s homes. It also shows how housing offers to local GPs and Clinical Commissioning Groups can be tailored to local needs across a wide range of services, including supported housing, housing improvements, adaptations, palliative home care and telehealthcare.
The report includes case studies from leading providers including Home Group, One Housing Group and Riverside, as well as local authorities including Birmingham City Council and Leeds City Council.
Domini Gunn, Director of Health and Wellbeing at CIH Consultancy commented:
The housing industry needs to continue to explain, evidence and demonstrate our role and contribution to the health and social care sectors and to increase the visibility of what housing commissioners and providers can offer in the development and delivery of integrated, jointly produced and commissioned services…
This report does exactly that and is designed to help identify opportunities and develop a business case for housing-related support, including telecare and telehealth, service commissioning and development.
Tunstall Managing Director Simon Arnold said:
The final CIH/Tunstall report from this year’s summits unites the views of key players from across the housing, health and care sectors. Crucially, not only does it convey important messages about the importance of integration and the role of assistive technology, but it also demonstrates how real innovation can be achieved.
